2019
In 2019, GLOW partnered with Sun Transfer’s Foundation, Stiftung Solarenergie – Solar Energy Foundation (Philippines) to implement a third Pay-It-Forward Project in Biri Island, Northern Samar.
GLOW’s donation purchased six solar water pumps from Hybrid Social Solutions (HSSI), the award winning social enterprise that is part of the Stiftung Solarenergie International Network for Rural Development. These water pumps were consigned to members of Biri Island's Farmer’s Association in Northern Samar- a poverty stricken area that is hit hard by typhoons annually. HSSI facilitated collection from CFA officers, and created an expansion of plan within Biri Island's Farmers Association. Priority in availing the service of the solar water pump was given to community members who are active members of Cahicsan Farmers Association first, and other farmers living there. Each hectare irrigated is considered as one share. A member can only avail of a maximum of two (2) shares in the initial project (unless nobody elses wishes to participate), then a member selection will go again through this cycle. Selection and prioritization of the participating members was done in plenary, with the officers and the members, and a majority vote will formalize the list of participating members. The total cost of each pump will be paid back by the members through the Pay-It-Forward model established from previous solar light distributions. |
