In November 2017, GLOW partnered with SELCO to create a project that aimed to provide clean energy access solutions to un-electrified, remote, rural, tribal or under-served households across the state of Karnataka in South India.
The funding support for the project was provided by GLOW.
These funds were leveraged in favor of creating a long-term impact to provide sustainable energy solutions.
Through these targeted fund, GLOW and SELCO worked together to address the barriers that inhibit affordability, rather than simply reducing the capital cost of the system.
In other words, missing links (like access to end user credit) were tackled through catalytic finance. This enabled first adopters to access energy services, and to de-risk clean energy financing for local financial institutions. All in all, providing with multiple social benefits for those living in rural, impoverished areas.
